Conferences and trade show booths are tricky business, some do too much and others do not enough, and you end up searching for that fine line of a sweet spot in the middle – The Goldilocks moment of “this one’s just right”. Gone are the days of a small canvas sign of the logo with a trestle table and some brochures. You’re now looking for a way to stand out from the crowd not only in looks but with an interactive activation to welcome and engage attendees, whether it be as simple as an easy question they need to answer about the product or service you provide, to run a competition to get names for your database, down to a giveaway that is something a bit different – there’s only so many branded pens one person needs!

Over the years we’ve done a variety of booths, some to fit themes and some just because they are fun. We’re talking things like a super hero theme where we did a Batman themed booth with caped lollipops, a CEO themed Where’s Wally with life size cut outs, a classic kiwiana booth with boards featuring classic kiwi icons and a competition for attendees to enter and a free hand scooped Tip Top ice cream with 6 classic flavours, a 12 foot Monopoly Board where you could take a ‘Chance’ card to see what you won.  For the theme ‘Be Courageous’ we did shark booth that asked everyone ‘What would you do if you knew you couldn’t fail?’ which got some truly great answers. To tie in with the theme we gave away sea themed lolly bags (chocolate fish, sea shells, and gummy sharks) and everyone who entered the competition by telling us what they would do went into the draw to win a ‘Swimming with the Shark’s session at Kelly Tarltons. The client got email addresses for every person who entered the competition for their  database and now have a great touch point to follow up with them this year!  The client also ended up with a fabulous wall full of inspirational ideas of what to do if you knew you couldn’t fail to take back to their warehouse to motivate their staff.

An eye catching booth can change the game, and actually do half the selling for you. Good clear branding communicates who you are, what your brand does and gives people a peek into how you do business – it tells them if you are the sort of people that they want to work with? It also helps bring attention to the benefits of your services or products. And once the eye catching booth has drawn them in, your interactive activation keeps them in your booth and then its up to your team to engage them and show the world what you can do! Whether you’ve got a 3x3m square or a 12m long end booth you have a range of options to make yourself stand out, in a sea of branded pen giveaways be a shark lolly!
